PASADENA, CA – The Chapman women's water polo team broke open a tight game with a strong second half en route to a 16-3 win over Caltech.
The Panthers scored the game's first two goals before a Soumya Kannann goal put Caltech on the scoreboard. Chapman found the back of the net for the final two goals of the opening period.
A low scoring second quarter ensued. Neither team was able to find the back of the cage until Hanna Dodd scored with 46 second left to bring Caltech's deficit to 4-2. However, Chapman scored with seven ticks left on the clock as they took a 5-2 lead into halftime.
Chapman took the late second quarter goal and continued their scoring drive in the third quarter. Chapman scored four of the five third period goals to widen their advantage to 9-3 heading into the final stanza. The Panthers put the game away with seven unanswered goals in the final quarter.
Chapman's offense was led by Samantha Martin's and Kate Avery's hat tricks.
The Beavers will host NCAA Division I foe Siena on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
