Late First Period Push Helps #2 CMS to Win

CLAREMONT, CA - The ClaremontMuddScripps women's water polo team grabbed momentum late in the first period and road that to a 14-2 win over Calech.

The Beavers got on the board first when Hanna Dodd scored just before the two minute mark in the frame. ClaremontMuddScripps responded just over 90 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1. Caltech retook the lead when Anastasia Markovtsova found the back of the cage with 4:11 left in the period. However, the Athenas took control from their as they scored three straight to end the period.

ClaremontMuddScripps proceeded to post a 3-0 scoring edge in the second period as they took a 7-2 lead at the game's halfway point.

Unfortunately for the Beavers the second half played out in a similar fashion. The second ranked Athenas won the third period 3-0 then posted a 4-0 scoring edge in the final period.

Connie Hsueh had a 14 save evening in front of the goal, including 10 in the second half alone. In addition to the Beaver goal scorers, Soumya Kannan and Marguax Lopez dished out assists.

Caltech hosts La Verne on Saturday at 11 a.m. as they continue SCIAC play.
