Quick Strike Offense Paces La Verne to Win

PASADENA, CA - A quick start by the La Verne women's water polo team propelled them to a 15-7 win over Caltech on Saturday afternoon.

In the SCIAC match-up the Leopards raced out to a 6-1 lead after the first eight minutes. The visitors put three goals on the scoreboard before Karen Dowling found the back of the net with 4:00 left in the period. The Beavers goal couldn't overcome the visitors offense. La Verne proceeded to score three unanswered goals to conclude the quarter.

With a 6-1 lead heading into the second period, La Verne continued to add to their scoring. The Leopard won the second eight minutes of action by an identical 6-1 count. Caltech's lone goal in the period came when Hanna Dodd fired from eight-meters.

A lower scoring third period ensued. La Verne got a pair of goals while Caltech found the back of the net once when Emily Shih scored her first goal of the season.

Caltech scored four goals in the final period while allowing just one. Dowling started the Beavers scoring with her second goal of the afternoon. Carly Bond tickled the net for her seventh goal of the season while Shalini Majumdar and Kelsey Spaur each scored their second goals of the year.

La Verne offense was paced by Maddie Lovrensky's six-goal effort. The sophomore scored three in the first period en route to her game high effort.
