Beavers Fall In First Game at SCIAC Championships

WHITTIER, CA - At the SCIAC Championships on Friday afternoon the Beavers got off to a strong start but succumbed to La Verne 15-3.

The first eight minutes of action went solidly for the Beavers. While they didn't find the back of the cage, the Caltech defense was stout as they limited the eighth seeded Leopards to just one goal.

La Verne scored the first three goals of the second period as they went in front 4-0 with 3:50 left until halftime. On the Beavers next possession they worked the ball to Monica Enlow who scored for the second straight game to trim their deficit to 4-1.

Unfortunately for Caltech, the Leopards scored the final three goals of the second stanza as they took a 7-1 lead after the first 16 minutes of action.

The Leopards scored the first goal of the third period 58 seconds into the frame. Souyma Kannan responded for Caltech with a net finder just over a minute later. La Verne pulled away in the final minutes of the period as they closed the stanza by scoring three unanswered goals.

The game's final eight minutes player out similarly to the previous period as La Verne posted a 4-1 scoring edge. Kannan scored her second goal of the day for the Beavers as she posted her seventh multi-goal game of the season.

Caltech will face Chapman on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
