PASADENA, Calif. (May 27, 2016) - Seniors Patric Eck (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) and Soumya Kannan (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M Gunn) have been named SCIAC Scholar-Athletes of the Year. One male and one female with the best combination of academic and athletic excellence from each institution are recognized.
A dedicated two-sport athlete, Eck was once again part of several record-breaking swimming & diving relays in addition to leading water polo to tie a program record with seven wins for the second straight year. The center capped his career with a program-record 89 drawn exclusions to go with 28 goals, 13 assists and 35 steals.
Kannan, a 2016 Fullbright Fellowship winner, put together a distinguished career that included more than 100 goals and concludes with a typical all-around line of 42 goals, 23 assists, 50 steals and 58 exclusions drawn. A three-time Academic All-SCIAC selection, two-time ACWPC All-Academic honoree and two-time team MVP, her leadership has been instrumental in the team's pursuit of its first-ever SCIAC victory.
