PASADENA, Calif. (Sept. 6, 2016) – The Caltech women's water polo team looks to build on last season's record-tying three wins over six home games and five away games in 2017. The Beavers open the season with four games at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the Claremont Convergence Tournament on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4.
Second-year head coach Jon Bonafede's squad welcomes Penn State-Behrend on Tuesday, Mar. 7 in what has become an annual matchup and which will serve as the Beavers' Orange Out, starting at 5 p.m. Caltech pulled out a close 12-10 win led by rising senior Mary Boyajian (Sun Valley, Calif. / Village Christian) and rookie sensation Brittany Percin (Moraga, Calif. / Stanford Online), who both scored four goals apiece.
With a long break following the home opener, the Beavers quickly commence SCIAC play, traveling to the Sagehens on Saturday, March 18. With just a few hours of rest, Caltech returns to Pasadena that same evening to host Macalester College at 5 p.m. looking to carry over the momentum of last year's two-match sweep with an 18-13 win at Macalester and a 10-7 win at home.
Following the tough back-to-back, the Beavers travel to Concordia University Irvine on Tuesday, March 21 and host Chapman the next day at 4 p.m. Finally getting an extended rest with nearly a week off from competition, Caltech heads out to the University of Redlands on Wednesday, March 29 and settles into the alternating Wednesday-Saturday SCIAC schedule through the stretch run that consists of three home games in the final five.
The Beavers host California Lutheran University on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 11 a.m. and the University of La Verne on Wednesday, Apr. 5 at 4 p.m., with a road matchup at Whittier College on Saturday, Apr. 8 breaking up the home stand. Caltech will celebrate Senior Day in a rivalry matchup against Occidental College on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 4 p.m. and conclude the first leg of conference round robin play at CMS on Saturday, Apr. 12.
