PASADENA (Mar. 6, 2019) – The Caltech women's water polo team contended with a tough University of La Verne team in Wednesday's SCIAC women's water polo contest, just one day after the Beavers won their first game in two years.
Caltech remained in reach of La Verne for much of the first half, stifling several attempts from Leopards to extend their lead. The Beavers began to gain some steam as the second half wore on and six different players accounted for the home team's seven goals. Senior center Brittany Percin (Lake Tahoe, Calif. / Stanford Online) extended her streak of multi-goal games to four with yet another two-goal game and also added one assist, two steals and two drawn exclusions. Freshman Sophie Devoe (La Jolla, Calif. / Bishop's) helped Caltech's cause with one goal and two assists and freshman Yuying Lin (Scarborough, Ontario / Victoria Park C.I.) matched her classmate's line with one goal and two assists. Senior Gemma Takahashi (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) made her season debut on got on the board with a goal in the fourth quarter.
Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Rock (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) remained busy in net, saving four La Verne shots while remaining aggressive in net with three steals. The freshman played all 32 minutes between the pipes.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Mar. 9 for an 11 a.m. game.
