NEW ORLEANS (Feb. 14, 2019) – The 2018-19 Caltech women's cross country team has qualified for the list of NCAA Division III Women's Scholar Teams of the Year as named by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The women's team put together a 3.55 cumulative GPA improving on last year's total by 0.14 points. For teams to be considered for the list, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet and meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on the traditional 4.0 scale. Meanwhile, sophomore Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) earned individual honors for the second year in a row thanks to her top-25 percent finish at regionals and surpassing the minimum 3.30 GPA needed to qualify.
The Beavers competed at NCAA West Regionals this year where Hu and the Beavers improved on their all-time best finish at regionals by one place, finishing 13th overall. Hu ended the race 17th among the women, and improved on last year's regional finish by 15 spots.
