Beavers Face Kingsmen and Sagehens

The Beavers traveled to Cal Lutheran on Friday afternoon before hosting Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon in the second-to-last weekend of SCIAC play.

Friday, April 23 - Cal Lutheran 24, Caltech 0 (Box Score)

The pitching combination of Aaron Roth and Tyler Hebda gave up two hits and struck out nine as Cal Lutheran posted the victory. Hebda worked the final three innings and didn't allowed a baserunner as he faced the minimum.

The Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings then put up a 14-run third inning en route to sweeping the season series from Caltech.

Nick Boggan had a monster day at the plate for the Kingsmen as the third baseman went 3-for-3 with five RBI and a run scored.

Albie Lavin and Nick Robertson tallied the two hits for the Beavers.

Saturday, April 24 - Pomona-Pitzer 14, Caltech 7 (Box Score)

Caltech jumped out to a 3-0 lead but couldn't hold on as the No. 23 Sagehens pulled out a 14-7 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers opened the bottom of the second inning with Brian Penserini and Albie Lavin reaching base. The duo was eventually brought home on a one-out double by Thomas Heavey. Brendan Sheehan scored the final run of the inning on a David Carrega ground out.

The visitors went on to score at least one run in each of the final six innings to chip away at their deficit. They started their comeback by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning to knot the score at 3-3. The Sagehens put up six more runs on the board to take the lead for good in the sixth inning.

Caltech didn't go down without a fight. Trailing 11-3 in the eighth inning, the Beavers plated four runs to get within 11-7 but Pomona-Pitzer scored three in the ninth inning to put any hopes of a comeback away.

A solid Beaver effort was led by Penserini and Heavey. The duo combined to bang out four hits while driving in six runs and scoring two. Lavin scored two runs to aid in the Beavers scoring efforts.

Nick Frederick had a 3-for-6 effort with four RBI's and a run scored for the Sagehens. Erik Muzer went 2-for-5 with three RBI's and two runs scored.
