PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 17, 2015) – Caltech baseball freshman Garrett Levine (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Acad.) has been named the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week.
Levine led Caltech to its first win of the season and a doubleheader sweep of Drew University with a perfect 4-for-4 line at the plate and a 3 2/3-inning save, the program's first since 2000. The rookie reached base in all five trips to the plate, smashing two doubles and drawing one walk, while allowing just one run in relief to preserve the win against Drew, which had just beaten Occidental the day prior. Levine also drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run and later scored in the first inning of Game Two.
Levine is the fifth Beaver to earn the award this academic year, joining men's basketball senior Andrew Hogue, junior Kc Emezie, women's basketball sophomore Kate Lewis and men's soccer sophomore John David Feist.
Head Coach Matthew Mark will lead Levine and the rest of the Beavers in a three-game series against Providence Christian College (9-4) this weekend. Game One will take place Friday, May 20 at Arcadia County Park, followed by a doubleheader at Caltech on Saturday, May 21 at 11:00 a.m.
