Pasadena, Calif. (August 23, 2016) – The Caltech baseball team has released its schedule for the 2017 spring season, which will include 18 home dates.
The Beavers will open the season with home doubleheaders against La Sierra University on back-to-back Sundays, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5, both at 11:00 a.m. Caltech came up short against the Golden Eagles in Game One, 7-6, of last year, but quickly regrouped to claim victory in Game Two, 9-6.
Another home doubleheader against fellow Pasadena school Providence Christian College is scheduled for the following week on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11:00 a.m.
The first conference series begins at home with the team's Orange Out against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday, Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. and finishes with the Saturday doubleheader at CMS the following day at 11:00 a.m. The Beavers scored 19 runs in last year's matchup with CMS, which is the most runs in a SCIAC series since the Beavers faced the University of Redlands in 1999.
A single game against Bates College is set for four days later, followed by weekend SCIAC series vs. the University of La Verne (Feb. 24-25) followed by Occidental College (Mar. 3-4).
Several non-conference home games in mid-March break up SCIAC competition, with the Beavers hosting Rutgers University–Newark (Mar. 10), Southern Vermont College (Mar. 13) and Bard College for a three-game weekend series (Mar. 18-19).
The Beavers will resume conference competition on Tuesday, Mar. 24 with weekly conference series over the next month. The remaining matchups will be with Redlands (Mar. 24-25), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Mar. 31-Apr. 1), Whittier College (Apr. 7-8) and reigning SCIAC champion California Lutheran University (Apr. 21-22).
Regular-season play ends with a three-game home series against St. Katherine's College (Apr. 28-29). The SCIAC Postseason Tournament is set for the following weekend, with the top four teams in the conference competing from Friday-Sunday, May 5-7.
