CHAPMAN, Calif. (Apr. 7, 2018) – The Caltech baseball team met up with Chapman University this weekend for a three-game SCIAC series which saw the Beavers played their best baseball early on.
Friday: Chapman 12, Caltech 0
Freshman Dillon Holder (New York, NY / Horace Mann) took the hill for Caltech for the second time in as many weeks and responded with three strikeouts in just under five innings. The Beavers managed to come up with a pair of hits against the Panthers' ace, both of which came from sophomore second baseman Cortland Perry (New York, N.Y. / The Dalton School) and freshman catcher Ari Rosner (Edgewater, Md. / Georgetown Day), who drew the start behind the dish for the home team.
Saturday Game 1: Chapman 10, Caltech 0
Junior starting pitcher Jonah Krop (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) drew the start for Caltech in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader at Chapman. The junior improved his K/9 once again with nine strikeouts over 7.2 innings pitched. Senior third baseman Garrett Levine (Columbus, Ohio / Columbus Academy) carried the Beavers' offense with a three-hit game in what has been a largely successful season for the senior. One of his hits went for a double to kick off the fourth inning. Both Cortland Perry and freshman right fielder Mitchell Watson (Windsor, Colo. / Windsor) got on base and took advantage with one stolen base each.
Saturday Game 2: Chapman 12, Caltech 1
The Beavers got on the board in the top of the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single from freshman catcher Ari Rosner (Edgewater, Md. / Georgetown Day). Rosner singled into right field and knocked home junior infielder Connor Moffatt (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington) in the top of the fifth inning.
Head Coach Matthew Mark and the Beavers will host their final doubleheader of the season on Saturday, Apr. 14 against visiting Whittier College for a Senior Day Orange Out.
