PASADENA (Apr. 2, 2019) – Freshman second baseman Max Popken (Westport, Conn. / Staples) of the Caltech baseball team has been named to D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for his four-game dominance at the dish this week. Popken is the first Caltech player to be recognized for Team of the Week since sophomore teammate Mitchell Watson (Windsor, Colo. / Windsor) the first week of last season.
The rookie hit in every game for the Beavers throughout the week which included victories over the College of New Rochelle and No. 10 California Lutheran University. His .571/.647/.786 triple slash is the team's highest for any player in any week this season. Popken also knocked in six runs over four games but saved his best game for the Kingsmen on Saturday, going 4-for-4 at the dish to help Caltech beat Cal Lutheran for the first time since 1963.
Popken and the Beavers will begin their next SCIAC series on Friday, Apr. 5 at 3 p.m. when they host the University of Redlands for the first of a three-game weekend series.
