Caltech freshman Mike Edwards (Canyon Country, CA) was recognized as SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week after two scintillating displays this past weekend. In the annual Holiday Classic, the 6'7" freshman exploded for 28 points against Rivier College on Saturday. He added 9 rebounds and 3 steals. He followed that performance with 29 points - including a Caltech record seven 3-pointers - versus Westminster (PA). He also accumulated 4 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals in the contest. Edwards was perfect from the free throw line during the weekend (11 for 11).
Through 11 games, the first year player is averaging 21.5 points
and 4.1 rebounds per outing, and is ranked nationally in the top 50
in scoring and 3-point field goals made per game. He has 22 steals
and 9 blocked shots this season while shooting 82.8 percent from
the charity stripe. The last Caltech player to garner the Male
Athlete of the Week award was Travis Haussler '09 on February 13,
