SANTA CRUZ, CA - In the season's first game away from the Braun Athletic Center, the Caltech men's basketball team fell to Saint Vincent on Friday afternoon 77-67.
The Beavers will play at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon against Linfield at Kaiser Permanete Arena. Tomorrow's game will wrap-up the Hilton Slugs Winter Tournament for Caltech.
Friday's game saw Kc Emezie post of his best games in a Beaver uniform. The sophomore scored 20 points and missed just two of his 11 field goal attempts in 36 minutes of action. He fell two points short of his career high.
Lawrence Lee had a solid game down low as the post player had 17 points while tying for team high honors in rebounds (6) and assists (4). Andrew Hogue rounded out the double figure scorers for the Beavers with a 13-point performance.
The Beavers made the Bearcats work hard for their victory. While Saint Vincent never trailed in the game, Caltech stayed within striking distance the entire contest. The Beavers final push came just before the midway points of the second half.
Down 53-42 with 12:19 left in the game, Caltech went on a 13-2 scoring run to tie the score at 55-55 with 6:40 remaining. The Bearcats retook the lead on their next possession but the Beavers stayed close. Ultimately Saint Vincent put the game away during the final three minutes. After a pair of Lee free throws brought the Beavers within 66-64, the Bearcats held Caltech to one field goal down the stretch as they finished the game on an 11-2 scoring spurt.
Caltech falls to 1-2 while the Bearcats up their record to 3-1.
