PASADENA, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2016) – Caltech men's basketball is still in a three-team tie for fourth place in the SCIAC standings; here's an updated look at the SCIAC Postseason Tournament picture with one game remaining:
1. Chapman 12-3
2. Whittier 9-6
3. Redlands 8-7
4. CMS 7-8
4. Caltech 7-8
4. La Verne 7-8
7. Pomona-Pitzer 6-9
7. Cal Lutheran 6-9
9. Occidental 6-10
Tue, Feb. 23 Caltech at Pomona-Pitzer
Cal Lutheran at Whittier
Redlands at La Verne
CMS at Chapman
Chapman has clinched the #1 seed outright and Whittier has clinched the #2 seed by virtue of its 2-0 head-to-head record vs. Redlands. Redlands controls its own fate regarding the #3 seed with a win, but a loss could drop them out of the tournament picture depending on other results. Caltech cannot earn the #3 seed, as La Verne would have to beat Redlands to allow the Beavers to match the Bulldogs' record, which would then catapult La Verne to the #3 seed thanks to its win over Chapman on Jan. 11; alternatively, a four-team tie would catapult CMS to the #3 seed by virtue of its superior 4-2 record against the other three teams and La Verne would earn the #4 thanks to its win over Chapman on Jan. 11.
Caltech can qualify for the tournament with:
W at Pomona-Pitzer
CMS L, La Verne L
Caltech can qualify for the tournament with a win over Pomona-Pitzer and…
…losses by both CMS and La Verne, which would earn the Beavers the #4 seed outright, with Redlands defeating La Verne.
Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers face Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 5:00 p.m.
