PASADENA (Jan. 17, 2016) – Senior David LeBaron (San Diego, Calif. / Francis Parker) led by example for the Caltech men's basketball team in Saturday's loss to visiting California Lutheran Unviersity.
Caltech's leading scorer put up 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting against one of the toughest SCIAC teams the Beavers will face all year. The forward also led his team defensively with five steals and buried both of his free throw attempts. Fellow senior Ricky Galliani (Menlo Park, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep), the only other Beaver to hit double-figures scored 11 points, pulled down eight rebounds and knocked down two three-pointers. Sophomore Brent Cahill (Laguna Beach, Calif. / St. Margaret's) chipped in with eight points off the bench.
Though the Beavers managed to turn in a competitive effort throughout the entire 40 minutes, the game got out of hand early thanks to their opponents shooting nearly 60-percent from the field throughout the game's entirety. The deficit ultimately proved to be insurmountable, though that did not stop players like LeBaron and Galliani from finding holes in the Kingsmen's defense and turning in respectable outings in the box score.
Head Coach Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will attempt to get back up to .500 against SCIAC teams when they travel to Pomona-Pitzer College on Thursday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
