PASADENA (July 19, 2018) – The Caltech men's basketball team has unveiled its schedule for the 2018-19 season. This year's schedule features 17 home contests which include all regular season non-league opponents and 16 games against SCIAC opponents, not including the 110 Rivalry game against local rival Occidental College on Friday, Nov. 16.
The men's team will not officially open the season until Nov. 10 against Oberlin College at 3 p.m. Caltech will first host Vanguard University for an exhibition contest on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The Beavers will then host the 110 Rivalry game with Oxy on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m in the first of three scheduled meetings this season. The men's basketball team will then round out November with a home tilt against Carleton College out of Northfield, Minn.
Caltech will return home on Thursday, Dec. 6 to host Colorado's Johnson & Wales University at 7 p.m before embarking on its second and final exhibition at California Baptist University that weekend. Men's Basketball will round out the last month of 2018 with four home games against non-league foes, starting with Principia College on the 17th, followed by Hanover College on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. Caltech will then host Lewis & Clark College on Friday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. before resuming action after Christmas against Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 4 p.m.
The remainder of the Beavers' schedule will exclusively feature SCIAC games. Caltech will open SCIAC play on the second day of January in Thousand Oaks against California Lutheran University at 7 p.m. The Beavers had an extremely competitive series with the Kingsmen in 2017, first at home when they dug out of a 28-point hole with a program-record 63 second-half points, and then on the road in another overtime clash. With Caltech graduating just one senior in Ducey Award-winning guard David Kawashima (Studio City, Calif. / North Hollywood), it is feasible to expect more of the same out of these two teams in what should be a highly anticipated SCIAC opener for the Beavers.
Caltech will be back at home for a three-game stint, beginning on Saturday, Jan. 5 when the Beavers meet Oxy for the first time since November at 4:30 p.m. The men will return just two days later against defending SCIAC regular season and postseason champions Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the annual Orange Out game at 7 p.m. Caltech will then face off at home against the University of La Verne on Wednesday Jan. 9 at 7 p.m., one year removed from splitting the season series with the Leopards. The Beavers will then hit the road for the next three games, beginning on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Whittier College, followed by a clash with the University of Redlands the following Monday and a visit to Chapman University the ensuing Wednesday. Caltech returns to Braun Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 19 just in time for the Alumni Night game with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, set for 7:30 p.m. Caltech rounds out the month with a third and final meeting at Oxy on the 26th at 4 p.m., followed by a home tilt with Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, Jan. 30th at 7 p.m.
February will feature the final seven games of the SCIAC regular season, with Caltech hosting three games, including the first two of the month. The Beavers will kick off February at home against Whittier at 4:30 p.m., and will turn around to host Chapman on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Caltech will then take on CMS for a second time in Claremont on Saturday, Feb. 9 and travel to La Verne to meet the Leopards on the 13th at 7 p.m. The men's basketball team's home finale will occur against Redlands on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and the Beavers will finish up the regular season at Pomona-Pitzer the following Tuesday. If the Beavers manage to qualify, the SCIAC postseason tournament is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23.
