REDLANDS, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2019) – The Caltech men's basketball team followed up its historic non-conference season with a strong first half at California Lutheran University on Wednesday evening.
The Beavers entered the second half with the Kingsmen trailing by just two points and well within striking distance. Additionally, three different Caltech players finished the game in double-figures. Junior guard Alec Andrews (Folsom, Calif. / Folsom) had 10 points for the Beavers, and sophomores Marcus Gee (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) and Spencer Schneider (Houston, Texas / Clearbrook) scored 13 and 12 points to lead the visiting team. Freshman guard Noah Barnes (Springfield, Va. / Jefferson) started for Caltech, and as one of three players to play at least 30 minutes helped out with nine points and six rebounds.
Playing their first road game of the 2018-19 season, the Beavers hot three-point shooting as of late cooled down, though they still managed to shoot 42-percent from the field. The host Kingsmen took care of the basketball with just five total turnovers, thus limiting Caltech's opportunities in transition to put together another late second-half comeback. Caltech also held the lead for the first seven minutes of the game and scored the first 10 points between the two teams.
Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will look for SCIAC retribution on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they host Occidental College at 4:30 p.m.
