LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Feb. 22, 2019) – Caltech men's basketball sophomore Marcus Gee (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) has been named to Second Team All-SCIAC for the first time in his career. Gee is the only sophomore in the conference to make first or second team this year.
Gee led Caltech in scoring with 14.2 points per game, a small improvement on last year's total. Gee's calling card has been the deep ball, leading the SCIAC with 64 total three's while maintaining last year's percentage (35 percent). Gee also shot 84.5-percent from the free throw line, good for one of the nation's top-100 free throw percentages. The sophomore was every bit as good defensively, routinely asked to cover the opponent's most prominent offensive threat while still managing to finish second in the conference in steals per game only to junior teammate Alec Andrews (Folsom, Calif. / Folsom).
"We couldn't be more proud of Marcus," Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger said. "What a huge honor – as a sophomore to make the all-conference team. He is so humble, so coachable and just does whatever the team needs. Marcus has always been a threat to put up points but this year he expanded the ways he does it by becoming more aggressive on the boards and becoming so much better at seeing the floor. He's a guy who just 'gets it' and he'll be the first to thank his teammates for helping him make it there."
Gee and the Beavers close the book on a historic 2018-19 season where they became the first Caltech men's basketball team to reach double-digit wins in 65 years.
