Caltech Loses to #15 CMS in Home Opener

PASADENA, Calif. – Caltech lost a 6-0 decision to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags on Monday afternoon in their home opener.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps jumped on Caltech within the first 10 minutes and never let up.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps led 3-0 at halftime after goals from Jared Bernstein, Christian Paullin, and Hogan Marhoefer.  Marhoefer scored on a ball from the right flank that kept floating to the back post and into the side netting beyond the outstretched arms of Caltech's goalkeeper, Wesley Swank.

Swank had four critical saves in the first half, including a point blank save off a corner kick.  He compiled nine saves for the game, making some nice stops, and keeping the score from getting completely out of hand.

Alec Sands had the best chance of the first half for Caltech as he received the ball at the top of the box, he made a nice turn and fired a shot that to the goalkeeper's right, but the keeper was able to get behind it.

The second half saw Harrison Doyle and David Taylor score before Hogan Marhoefer added his second goal of the match with just seven minutes left in the game.

Taylor, Doyle, and Bernstein all finished the game with a goal and an assist for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
