PASADENA, Calif. - Caltech can't overcome two goals in first 13 minutes and fall to the Redlands Bulldogs, 8-0.
Redlands opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute of play when Richie Marquez scored from a corner kick taken by Matej Kustura. Kustura again provided the assist in the 13th minute when Charles Izydorek headed in another Redlands corner kick.
Kunm Jeje had a chance to score a minute after the restart when Caltech sent a ball in behind the Redlands defense. Jeje beat his defender to the ball and had an open opportunity from the top of the box, but Redlands goalkeeper Andreas Silva was able to parry it past the post.
Izydorek would score his second goal of the game in the 28th minute when he volleyed home a chance. Gustavo Orozco crossed in a ball from the right flank and Gabe Ramirez flicked it on to Izydorek who laced a shot into the side netting.
Ramirez would become the goalscorer just three minutes later when Orozco crossed a ball from the right flank. Ramirez was waiting on the back post and was able to head it past Caltech goalkeeper Juan Pablo Ocampo.
Ramirez would capture his brace in the 39th minute when he took a shot after Jensen Brehm sent a cross in. Grahame Fitz collected the ball in the box and laid it off for Ramirez who put the ball in the back of the net.
Caltech amped up the pressure at the beginning of the second half after they sent Brice Nzeukou and fellow centerback Nicky Zhang to forward. The team moved to the front foot of the game, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Peter Marseden scored a goal after Alex Laughton sent a cross on the ground from the left flank. Caltech had committed to many men forward and were caught on a three on two situation at the back.
That happened again in the 81st minute when Redlands scored twice to finish the scoring. Jensen Brehm and Noah Prudhomme capped the scoring, while Orozco collected his third assist of the match on Brehm's tally.
Caltech will look to rebound in their next match which is away to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Monday.
