PASADENA, CA – The Caltech men's soccer team started the season with a 5-0 set-back against Cal State San Marcos on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors used a strong second half on a sultry afternoon en route to the win.
The game's first scoring opportunity came in the 13th minute when Marec Serlin put on shot on goal from in close but Cougars goalie Zach Sheppard made the save.
Cal State San Marcos opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Jacob Stolmeier took a feed from Dustin Schibilia inside the box and found the back of the net. Neither team put a goal on the board the rest of the half.
The visitors put their second goal on the board in the 47th minute when Diego Fontes scored the first of his two goals. Fontes made the score 3-0 in the 68th minute with an unassisted goal from a right footed blast from 25 yards out.
The scoring was rounded out in the 76th and 82nd minutes respectively as Luka Stevanovic and Alex Jazari tallied goals.
Caltech goalie J.D. Feist made seven saves in his first collegiate game.
The Beavers return to the pitch on Thursday afternoon for their next NCAA contest against Arizona Christian at 4 p.m.
