Pomona-Pitzer Holds Off Caltech's Comeback Attempt

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer men's soccer team held off a gutsy effort from Caltech on Monday afternoon to post a 4-2 win.

The Sagehens got on the board in the 14th minute when Arash Mahboubi scored on a breakway off a Matty Marvin pass. Despite 17 shots by the home team, six of which were on goal, the back line of Caltech played solid defense to keep a second half comeback in order.

The home team added to their one-goal lead 13 minutes later when Drew Lind scored on a header from a JK Gopakumar pass into the box. Pomona-Pitzer put the game out of reach when they scored on their next shot in the 80th minute as Gopakumar put in a goal of his own.

Juan Pablo Ocampo scored his first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute when he corralled a long free kick and found the back of the net. Evren Gokcen assisted on a the play for his first point as a collegian.

J.D. Feist blocked eight of the Sagehen's 12 attempts on goal to bring his season save total to 79 in 11 starts.
