PASADENA, CA - The Chapman men's soccer team opened up the scoring late in the first half and rode that momentum to a 7-0 win on Wednesday afternoon over Caltech.
Nick Echeverry, the SCIAC's leading goal scorer, got the visitors on the board with a shot from 15-yards out after a successful run down the right side of the field. Chapman grew their lead to 2-0 when Caltech's misplayed a ball that led to an own goal in the 15th minute. Echeverry gave the Panthers a 3-0 cushion in the 27th minute with a rocket shot from 25-yards out into the left upper corner.
In the 40th minute the Beavers nearly cut into their deficit when Alec Sands had an opportunity from 20-yards out but his kick sailed just over the cross bar. The Panthers took any momentum the home team had built moments later as they scored a pair of goals in the 43rd minute.
Chapman rounded out the scoring with two goals in the final half. Echeverry completed his hat trick with a goal in the 61st minute then Gabe Richt-Appel scored with just under four minutes left off a free kick from in close.
Caltech's J.D Feist had a 14-save performance in front of the net. It was the second most saves Feist has had this season.
Wednesday's concluded a long home stretch for the Beavers as they now go on the road for four consecutive contests beginning Saturday at Whittier.
