Beavers Suffer Set Back After Season Best Effort

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – One goal early and two late proved to be enough as Cal Lutheran thwarted a gallant effort from the Caltech men's soccer team on Monday evening.

The home team scored in the game's second minute when Tal Zaiet scored an unassisted goal. The Kingsmen continued to press the issue on their offensive end but their efforts went for naught because of a stingy Caltech back line.

In the 23rd minute the Beavers had a chance to get on the board when Evren Gokcen put a shot on goal but Jack Duncan made the save to keep the Kingsmen lead. The Beavers had back-to-back shots by Juan Pablo Ocampo in the 33nd minute got blocked and went wide respectively.

Cal Lutheran had a chance to increase their lead moments later but shots in the 35th and 37th minutes sliced off the post. Alec Sands had an opportunity to tie the score in the 41st minute but, Duncan made the save. The final chance of the first half came when Cal Lutheran's Matt Hubbard hit the post in the 45th minute as the score stayed 1-0 at halftime.

The Beavers had a pair of chances with corner kicks early in the second half. Jared Reed's header from Marec Serlin's corner feed was block in the 53rd minute. Adam Ball had a header that went high off a Serlin corner kick in the 59th minute.

Cal Lutheran got breathing room in the 82nd minute when Henry Breheny scored in the 82nd minute. Caltech had one last push but a Sands shot minutes later went wide. The home team sealed the game with a goal by Kyle Fleming in the 89th minute.

Caltech tied a season high with nine total shots as Sands, Ocampo and Jean Turban each registered a team high two shots.
