Feist Makes Six Saves in Men’s Soccer Opener

SANTEE, Calif. (Aug. 29, 2015) – Junior J.D. Feist (Richardson, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) rode an impressive first half to record a total of six saves in the Caltech men's soccer team's season opener at San Diego Christian College on Saturday.

Feist made four saves in the first half to keep the Beavers within one at the intermission, but the Hawks mustered four more goals in the second half to remain perfect on the season at 3-0, while Caltech starts out at 0-1.

Feist was called upon three times in the first 22 minutes as SDC controlled play from the outset.  The junior goalkeeper held firm between the posts until the 36th minute, when the Hawks connected on a run into the box with a cross from the left side that never gave Feist a chance.

The Hawks continued to dictate the game in the second half, ripping four shots in the opening 10 minutes before netting on another cross into the box for the 2-0 lead.  Caltech finally managed to earn a  corner kick in the 58th minute but could not take advantage, and an own goal six minutes later all but decided things.  SDC struck twice in the final eight minutes, including a header past Feist, after which the junior was given a break and replaced by freshman Nikhil Gupta (Herndon, Va. / Thomas Jefferson Science and Tech.).

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will host American Sports University on Friday, Sept. 4 at 4 p.m.
