PASADENA, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2016) – Senior J.D. Feist (Richardson, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) made 12 saves as the Caltech Men's soccer team lost its SCIAC opener to No.21 Redlands, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Beavers drop to 0-2 (0-1).
The Redlands front line attacked from the opening whistle, ripping three shots on goal with Chase Boone connecting on one in just the second minute. The Bulldogs notched goals in the 32ndand 43rd minutes as well. The Beavers went into the half down by three with Feist stopping five shots in the first half, followed by another 45 minutes where the senior goalkeeper was aggressive in the box and helped the Beaver defense play a stronger and more organized second half. After allowing two goals in the first 15 minutes, Caltech did not give up another goal the rest of the game.
Sophomore Jack Banaszak (Bethesda, Md. /Bethesda Chevy-Chase) registered the lone shot on goal for Caltech, which came on a free kick in the Beavers' own half and nearly snuck in under the crossbar, but goalkeeper Josh Haskill pulled it down by his fingertips to maintain the shutout.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will travel to the University of La Verne (2-0-1, 0-0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
