PASADENA (Oct. 28, 2017) – Senior midfielder Chris Haack (New York, N.Y. / The Browning School) was recognized in a short pregame ceremony before the Caltech men's soccer team took on the University of Bethesda in Saturday's season finale.
The Beavers trailed the Flames by three goals at halftime and picked up 10 team shots on goal, good for their highest number since their trip to the University of La Verne on Oct. 14. Freshman Gianfranco de Castro (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) led the Caltech offense with two shots on goal while sophomore midfielder Theo Yang (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and attacking substitute sophomore Alex Lettenberger (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard West) each had one shot on goal. Freshman keeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) capped a solid first season with eight saves and finished as the SCIAC leader in that category.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers concluded 2017 with their lone victory coming against Providence Christian College back on Sept. 2. With a number of freshman contributors having stepped up throughout the year, Caltech will be poised to build on improvements made against the rest of the SCIAC this season.
