LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2018) – Sophomores Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) and Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill) of the Caltech men's soccer team have been named the SCIAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Both players played an integral role in the Beavers notching their first NCAA win since 2011-12, a 1-0 clean sheet over Linfield College on August 31. Como, last year's SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, played the entire game between the pipes and managed 11 saves to keep the visiting Wildcats off the board. Como turned away two tough headers inside the box, and six of his saves came following the Beavers' go-ahead goal in the 58th minute. Caltech's goal came off the foot of Mirchandani, who knocked home the winner after touches from junior Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) and sophomore Chad Thut (Dover, N.H. / Berwick Acad.) for his second career tally.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5 when they host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
