PASADENA (Sept. 5, 2018) – The Caltech men's soccer team hung with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the first SCIAC contest of the season on Wednesday, limiting the Sagehens to just two goals.
Starting goalkeeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) had his second consecutive game with at least 10 saves, stopping 10 shots including five in each half. Como and the Caltech defense kept the Beavers in the game early, holding the Sagehens off the board for the game's first 48 minutes. Freshman Samir Johnson (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) and junior Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) led the Beavers offensively with four shots apiece. Yu, who had three shots on goal, attempted a penalty kick late with a chance to cut the deficit in half. Sophomore Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill) also picked up a shot on goal as the Beavers showed great improvement from last year's meeting with Pomona-Pitzer.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will travel to California Lutheran University on Saturday, Sept. 8.
