PASADENA (Sept. 29, 2018) – Led by freshman midfielder Samir Johnson (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit), the Caltech men's soccer team put forth a balanced, two-way effort against the University of La Verne on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson, along with junior Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) and classmate Velissarios Christodolou (Athens, Greece / Athens College) fronted the Caltech attack, combing for 10 total shots, each accumulating one shot on goal. The trio's attacking play allowed the Beavers to outshoot the Leopards, 6-4 in the first half for the first time in 2018 SCIAC play. The Caltech defense, meanwhile did well to limit the visitors' opportunities to score on sophomore goalkeeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.), who made four saves while facing six shots on net.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will hit the road on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges for a 7 p.m. game.
