PASADENA (Nov. 8, 2018) – Junior midfielder Theo Yang (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) of the Caltech men's soccer team has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District team, selected by CoSIDA.
Yang, a chemical engineering major, has posted a 3.93 cumulative GPA, the fifth-highest of the 11 players selected. On the field, the junior helped the men's soccer team to one of its most successful seasons in recent memory with four wins, its first SCIAC win since 2011, and a collective 21 goals over 17 games. Yang himself contributed one goal and assisted on the game-winning strike that gave Caltech the SCIAC nod over Whittier College in the last game of the season.
As an All-District honoree, Yang will progress to the national All-America ballot, which will be announced on Dec. 4.
District 8 is the largest district recognized by Academic All-America and is comprised of 21 U.S. states and all participating institutions in Canada. The Academic All-America program recognizes student-athletes with a minimum 3.30 GPA and significant athletic contribution to their team, as voted on by members of CoSIDA.
