SALEM, Ore. (Sept. 14, 2019) – Junior forward Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill) scored his team-leading third goal of the season on Sunday afternoon when the Caltech men's soccer team wrapped its Pacific Northwest roadtrip against Northwest University. Mirchandani's three goals represent a career-high just four games into his third season with the team.
The junior, who also accounted for the visitors' second shot-on-goal earlier in the game, got the Beavers on the board with just four minutes to go in regulation. Sophomore midfielder Mohamed Soufi (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) found Mirchandani on the goal, and in doing so picked up the first point of his Caltech career. While Soufi assisted on the goal, senior midfielder Arjun Zutshi (Aurora, Ill. / Metea Valley) set up the Caltech possession by drawing a key foul just 45 seconds prior.
Caltech entered the road trip shorthanded on the offensive and defensive end, but senior goalkeeper Richard Shim (New York, N.Y. / Phillips Acad.) drew a second-consecutive start in net and acquitted himself well with six saves over the full 90 minutes.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will now turn their attention towards SCIAC play which is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Whittier College.
