Men's Soccer Posts Encouraging First Half at Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2019) – The Caltech men's soccer team defended well in the first half of its SCIAC opener at Whittier College in a rematch of last year's victorious regular season finale.

The visiting Beavers the Poets to just one goal over the game's first 45 minutes thanks to sound play from their back line  and last line of defense. Senior goalkeeper Richard Shim (New York, N.Y. / Phillips Acad.) drew his third consecutive start in net and stopped five shots to give him a team-leading 14 saves on the young season.

As the level of physicality increased into the second half, so too did the Beavers scoring chances. Senior midfielder Theo Yang (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) came up with the Beavers lone shot on net and added an additional chance that ended up just wide of the net.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will look to right the ship this Saturday when they host California Lutheran University at 3 p.m.
