Shorthanded Men's Soccer Holds CMS at Home

PASADENA (Sept. 28, 2019) – A shorthanded Caltech men's soccer team held visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges scoreless over the second half of Saturday's SCIAC game.

After ceding two quick goals to the Stags midway through the first half, the Beavers held the visitors scoreless for the duration of the game's ensuing 70 minutes, thanks to some stellar goalkeeping from sophomore Velissarios Christodolou (Athens, Greece / Athens College). Making the first goalkeeping start of his career, Christodolou made 11 huge saves and stood tall when his team needed him most. The Stags' two goals were near unsaveable shots and the sophomore acquitted himself well against a deep and experienced visiting roster in the moments to follow.

Offensively, senior Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) and junior Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill) connected on a couple serious runs to threaten the Stags early, forcing the visitors to make adjustments on the fly in order to limit Caltech's opportunities late.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will be in search of a better result this Wednesday, Oct. 2 when they host the University of La Verne at 4 p.m.
