LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2019) – Sophomore goalkeeper Max Popken (Westport, Conn. / Staples) has garnered SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performances against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and the University of Redlands this past week.
The baseball star joined the men's soccer team earlier this month and his addition to the goalkeeping group is already paying dividends. Popken averaged just one goal allowed over the two-game week and totaled 15 saves over that span while also earning a clean sheet in the Beavers' 2-0 road win over Pomona-Pitzer. Since joining the team, the sophomore holds an .852 save percentage to go along with 23 total stops.
Popken and the Beavers will play their next game on the road when they rematch the University of La Verne on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
