Lu, Takahashi Sweep CollegeSwimming.com Weekly Awards

PASADENA, Calif. (Dec. 15, 2015) – Caltech swimming and diving freshmen Dylan Lu (Kingwood, Texas  / Kingwood) and Gemma Takahashi (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) have been named the TeamUnify / CollegeSwimming.com SCIAC Swimmers-of-the-Week after their performances in dual meets against Cal Lutheran University on Saturday morning.

Lu led the men's 400 Medley Relay team to a meet-opening win with a 55.77 leadoff 100 Back split and later claimed one of just three individual Beaver victories in the 500 Free, clocking the third-fastest time in program history at 4:55.92.  The rookie also swam his first sub-1:50 200 Free at 1:49.93 despite being narrowly out-touched to place second.

Takahashi combined with freshman Brittany Percin (Moraga, Calif. / Stanford Online) and junior Zofii Kaczmarek (New York, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) to win eight of the 11 individual events contested in the shortened-meet format.  She posted victories in the 50 Free, 100 Fly and 100 Back, including a season-best 59.64 in the butterfly.

Head Coach Jack Leavitt, Takahashi and the rest of the Beavers will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 15 in a dual meet against Mills College.
