OJAI, CA - A large continent of Caltech players took part at the Ojai Tournament. It is believed to be the first time in school history Caltech put six players in the field.
In doubles action the top six players for Caltech took the court. The Pathireddy twins battled the Pomona-Pitzer team of Samuel Crawford and Jonathan Kim to the bitter end before falling 9-7.
Rushikesh Joshi and Morgan Lebby each took to the Ojai Tournament court for the first time as doubles team. The tandem drew Troy Akin and Bretty Buford from Chapman. The Panther team posted an 8-1 victory.
During singles play all six players were in action. At the top portion of the nearly 64-person field Sathwick Pathireddy won his first set against Teddy Jones (Redlands) 6-3 but Jones fought back with a pair of 6-4 wins in the final two sets.
Devashish Joshi battled Lester Yeh from ClaremontMuddScripps but couldn't come out on top in a tight match as he fell 7-6 (5), 6-2. Mernik was also playing in the top half of the draw as he tangled with Shogo Shimizo from Whittier with the Poets player recording a 6-1, 6-4 win.
Rushikesh Joshi dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Redlands Gram Leahy. Lebby put up a good effort against Troy Chavez from Whittier but couldn't grab the win as he fell 6-3, 6-4. Ruthwick Pathireddy drew Michael Chang from Pomona-Pitzer. After Chang won a tight first set 7-5, he pulled away for a 6-1 win in the second set.
