PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 1, 2015) – Sophomores Ruthwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) and Sathwick Pathireddy (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney) each won both their matches to carry the Caltech men's tennis team to a second straight win, 5-4, over Clark University on Sunday morning.
The Beavers are now 2-3 overall while the Cougars dip to 2-6.
Looking to beat the rain once again, the match started with singles play. Ruthwick Pathireddy made short work of his matchup at #2, winning 6-1, 6-0 for the Beavers' opening point. Clark quickly turned the tables, though, winning at #1 and #6 to go ahead 2-1. Sathwick Pathireddy and junior Alexander Henny (Scarborough, Maine / Scarborough) pulled out close wins at #3 (6-4, 6-4) and #5 (7-5, 6-2) singles, respectively, and sophomore Morgan Lebby (Laguna Beach, Calif. / Laguna Beach) rallied to take a crucial match at #4, dropping the first set 4-6 but locking in to record 6-2, 6-1 victories in the next two.
Clark leveled the match with 8-4 wins at #2 and #3 doubles, leaving only the top court remaining with the match in the balance, but the Pathireddy twins came through with the 8-5 win to take it.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will host Biola University (3-5) in a makeup of Feb. 7's postponement on Friday, Mar. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
