Nine Men's Tennis Players Recognized for ITA All-Academic Team

TEMPE, Ariz. (July 18, 2019) – Nine members of the Caltech men's tennis team have been recognized as 2019 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes per an Intercollegiate Tennis Association announcement on Thursday. Andre Liu (Novi, Mich. / Novi) is the only member of this year's departing senior class to have been recognized in each of his four years with the team. Sophomore doubles team Varun Shanker (Midland, Mich. / Midland Dow) and James Wei (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) successfully added ITA all-academic status in 2019 to a growing list of academic achievements which includes recognition from the SCIAC and Google Cloud Academic All-America®.

Men's List

To become an ITA scholar-athlete, the following criteria must be met: The athlete must be a varsity letter winner have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year). 

The men's tennis team recently concluded one of its best seasons of all time, finishing the year with its highest year-end ranking ever. The Beavers came in at 24th in the nation in the final set of spring ITA rankings, ranked third among SCIAC teams.
