PASADENA, CA -- The fifth ranked Chapman men's water polo squad used a strong second quarter to propel them to a 24-6 win over Caltech on Wednesday afternoon.
Each team scored two goals in the opening eight minutes of action. Jack Blackwood gave the Beavers an early 1-0 lead just before the midway point of the quarter. After Chapman knotted the score with 3:25 left in the frame, Blackwood found the back of the cage to give the advantage back to the home squad. Chapman scored the final goal of the first quarter with 2:02 left.
Chapman scored all six goals in the second quarter and kept the Beavers at bay in racing out to a 8-2 advantage. The story coming out of halftime was similar as the Cougars continued their offensive push by scoring the first three goals of the third quarter. Jim Blackwood stopped the Beavers scoring drought with 6:23 left in the quarter. An undaunted Chapman squad proceed to finish the quarter on a 5-1 scoring spurt as they scored eight of the 10 goals in the third period.
The visitors put together another 8-2 scoring edge in the final quarter to put an exclamation point on the win.
