CLAREMONT, Calif. (Nov. 1, 2014) – Sophomore Chris Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) recorded his 21st hat trick of the season to move within just six goals of the single-season program record as the Caltech men's water polo team faced SCIAC-leading Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday morning.
CMS rode a 7-0 edge in the first quarter to a comfortable 14-6 win in what was otherwise a tightly contested match. The Stags improve to 9-12 (5-0) while the Beavers drop to 7-15 (0-4).
After being shut out in the opening quarter, Caltech finally mustered a goal in the second quarter but still trailed 10-1 at halftime. The Beavers bounced back in a completely different second half, however, outscoring the Stags 5-4 as Bradley and junior Jim Blackwood (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) each recorded a hat trick.
Bradley's three goals bring his season total to 111, leaving him just six shy of David Bruning's 1986 program record of 117.
Bradley will attempt to break the record as he, Head Coach Pat Beemer and the rest of the Beavers return home to host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (6-14, 2-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. The game will be available online via live video stream and twitter updates (@CaltechBeavers).
