PASADENA, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2015) – Senior James Blackwood (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and junior Christopher Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) combined for seven goals and four assists as the Caltech men's water polo team suffered a 19-10 defeat at the hands of Division III No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday morning.
The Stags improve to 15-7 overall and stay perfect in the SCIAC at 5-0 while the Beavers are now 7-13 (0-4).
CMS jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before Caltech got on the board. Bradley converted a man-up opportunity on the Beavers' final possession of the quarter thanks to a Blackwood assist, and freshman Eshan Govil (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) scored another for Caltech to open the second quarter. CMS steadily disrupted the Beavers' offense more and more on each possession while tacking on three more goals before halftime.
Blackwood cut the deficit back to four on the first possession of the third quarter, but CMS continued to outpace Caltech despite another brace from Bradley and skip-lob goal from Govil. The Stags maintained a 5-4 edge in the fourth quarter to leave with the victory.
Bradley netted five goals and made three steals while Blackwood scored twice and dished out four assists.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers are back in the pool at DIII No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (8-13, 1-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
