LA VERNE, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2019) – Junior center Steven Csaposs (Davis, Calif. / Davis) led the Caltech men's water polo team in each of its two games at this year's Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament.
McKendree 18, Caltech 8
Csaposs scored his first two goals of the day against the Bearcats and was one of three different Beavers to do so. Classmate Alex Janosi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) also scored twice for Caltech, as did freshman Max Bricken (Portland, Ore. / Westview). The three Beavers served as the team's offensive core in the first of two Saturday games, assisting on each other's goals. Csaposs ended the game with a pair of assists, as did Janosi while Bricken added an assist of his own. Sophomore Alex Wang (Saratoga, Calif. / The Harker School) also found the back of the net for Caltech in a strong game for the Beavers up until McKendree turned it on in the second half.
Air Force 18, Caltech 5
Csaposs led the way for the Beavers in the second Saturday game against late-notice opponent Air Force Academy. The junior notched a hat trick, with all three goals coming in the first half. Bricken, along with sophomore Austin Harvard (Lake Forest, Calif. / El Toro) assisted on two of Csaposs' goals. Janosi also scored for Caltech, as did junior Neil Sanderson (Laguna Beach, Calif. / Winchester). Both senior Bradley Justice (El Cajon, Calif. / Grossmont) and freshman Wei Foo (Hacienda Heights, Calif. / Troy) split in net, with Justice making six saves and Foo coming up with four against a battle-tested Air Force team with Division I playing experience.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Occidental College, a team they beat three times in 2017.
