CLAREMONT, Calif. – In the final SCIAC dual meet of the season, the Caltech men prevailed over Pomona-Pitzer while first year Paige Logan continued to impress as she reset the school record in the shot put.
The Beavers outscored the Sagehens 91-67 for their first dual meet win since the 2008 season when the Beavers knocked off Whittier.
Caltech's strong showing in the field events proved to be the difference. Alex Lapides once again showed his presence as the senior won the high jump by clearing the bar at 6'6". Lapides also participated in the discus, hammer and javelin throws in the field events to aid in the Beavers cause. He also ran in the 100, 200 and 110 hurdle races.
In the 110 meter hurdle race Lapides beat out defending league champion John Lewis by 0.16 to finish third overall.
Brice Nzeukou came up big with a solid showing in the 100 meter and 200 meter races. Nzeukou placed fifth in the 100 (11.35) and sixth in the 200 (23.25) in addition to helping the Beavers beat Pomona-Pitzer in the 4x100 relay.
Sei Masuoka helped the Caltech charge in the 400 and 800 meter races as the freshman was the Beaver top finisher in both races.
During the women's competition Logan hurled the shot put 37'8 ¾" to top her previous mark by an inch and half. She also set a personal best mark of 94'5" in the hammer throw. In addition to setting those marks, she won the discus competition with a throw of 114'2" to top her nearest competitor by seven inches.
Jessica Swallow improved her personal best mark in the long jump to 15'5" which is four inches better than her previous mark.
