LOS ANGELES, CA – The distance runners on the Caltech track and field team took part in one of the largest collegiate distance invitational's in the region on Friday evening.
The Occidental Distance Carnival featured well over 1,000 participants from nearly 100 different organizations.
During the women's competition Juliette Becker ran the 10000 meter race where she finished in 40:33.05 to break the school record she set at this event two seasons ago. The previous mark was 41:45.54. Becker also ran the 800 meter race in 2:28.70 to set a two-second personal best mark for her as she moved into fifth place on the school's top 10 list in that race.
Stephanie Reynolds set a personal record by running the 5000 meter race in 18:40.44. Her previous best time at that distance on a track was 19:19.55.
Also participating in the event during the women's event were Marlyn Moore and Alice Michel. Moore ran the 5000 meter race in 22:19.67 while Michel clocked a time of 5:52.73 in the 1500 meter race.
The duo of Alex Pien and Aditya Bhagavathi posted nearly identical times in the 1500 meter race. Pien finished the nearly four-lap race in 4:10.90 while Bhagavathi crossed the finish line in 4:11.84. In his first competition of the season, Jared Forte ran the race in 4:41.70. Mark Lorden completed the event in 4:55.86 to round out the Beaver runners in that race.
Michael Ignatowich competed in the 5000 meter race. The graduate student clocked a time of 16:20.85.
Juan Adame continued to craft his skills in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Adame completed the event in 10:51.48 which is just outside one of the school's top 10 times.
Andy Zucker nearly broke the two-minute mark in the 800 meter run. The senior completed the two-lap race in 2:03.26.
