Track and Field Teams Earn Academic Honors

PASADENA, Calif. – The men's and women's track and field teams at Caltech received All-Academic honors which were given out by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Caltech men's team recorded the highest cumulative team GPA among all Division III squads, with an impressive 3.53 team mark. It is the second straight season the Beavers have tallied the best team GPA in the country. Caltech was one of four SCIAC schools among the 80 institutions that earned All-Academic status which was given to school's whose team GPA exceeded 3.10.

Fellow conference schools Pomona-Pitzer (3.42), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (3.42) and Cal Lutheran (3.27) were also honored.

The Caltech women's team also received All-Academic honors for their team GPA of 3.38.  That mark was third in the SCIAC conference behind Pomona-Pitzer (3.71) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (3.47).  Six SCIAC institutions were among the 148 that were honored by the USTFCCCA.

"This program will continue to work hard in the classroom and on the track." said head coach Michael Stevenson.  "To have the highest GPA in the country at the toughest school academically in the nation is truly a testament to the work that these kids put in all year. Caltech has a strong tradition of hard-working student-athletes, and it is special to see them recognized nationally once again. They should take pride in this accomplishment."

The men's team has 26 student-athletes while the women's team has 11 members.

The USTFCCCA also bestowed honors upon Caltech's cross country teams in the fall when both the men's and women's teams meet the same criteria.
