CLAREMONT, CA – With the season still winding into shape, the Caltech track and field team took part in the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers meet on Saturday.
The Beavers put together a handful of solid performances.
In the distance races Juliette Becker completed the one mile race in 5:50.67 which was 11th out of 32 runners. Aditya Bhagavathi took part in both the 1000 meter and 3000 meter runs. The sophomore finished 12th in the 1000 with a time of 2:40.43 which was just a few ticks of the clock away from a top 10 finish in the 32-person field. Bhagavathi did get a top 10 finish, in a field of 76 runners, in the 3000 meter event by crossing the finish line in 8:55.25.
Paige Logan highlighted the field events for the Beavers. The senior won the shot put with a top throw of 37'4". She took fifth in the discus (100'6") and seventh in the hammer throw (120'08"). On the men's side, Morgan Hill also posted a top 10 finish in the hammer throw (109'03").
Two other individuals took top 10 finishes for the Beavers during field events. Anand Poozhikunnel jumped 38-feet in the triple jump and recorded a 19' 1 1/4" in the long jump. William Hoza cleared the bar at 11' 5 3/4" in the pole vault.
The event, which had no team scoring, featured participants from over 10 colleges across all NCAA and NAIA divisions. There were also several unattached athletes as well.
Caltech will next participant in the Rossi Relays on Saturday which is hosted by ClaremontMuddScripps.
