GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 26, 2016) – Caltech men's cross country and track & field graduated senior Aditya Bhagavathi (Plainsboro, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro North) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive year.
Bhagavathi, who earned the highest Academic All-America honor in Caltech history last year, capped his career as a Beaver with a second-place finish in the SCIAC cross country Multi-Duals and fourth place in the SCIAC Championships, which marked the program's best individual finish since 2001 and the team's best (sixth) since 2004. Also the program's first two-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships, Bhagavathi led the Beavers to their first-ever regional ranking on the heels of his spring track & field title in the 5k, which made him a three-time All-SCIAC honoree.
The only SCIAC representative on the list, Bhagavathi joins fellow 2015 Academic All-America At-Large junior Christopher Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) as two of only three Beavers to be named Academic All-District in multiple years, along with Jeremy Leibs (BS '05). Bhagavathi, Bradley and men's basketball junior Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha) also have now combined to earn a department-record five Academic All-District honors in just the past two years.
As a First Team honoree, Bhagavathi once again will advance to the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in late June.
Student-athletes must maintain a cumulative, non-rounded 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale, have completed at least one calendar year at the nominating institution and reached at least sophomore athletic standing to be eligible for nomination. Academic All-District and All-America teams are nominated for and voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
